Skimmed or low-fat milk (120millilitres)

Softened or room temperature margarine (60 grams or one-half of a stick)

Plain cocoa powder (60 grams)

Sugar, granulated cane (400 grams)

Nutella (1/8 cup)

Almond butter (120 grams)

Vanilla extract (1 teaspoon)

Oats, quick cooking (225 grams)


We start off by cooking a combination of the initial four ingredients added to a medium-sized saucepan that is placed on moderate flame over a stove. The contents must be constantly stirred and brought to a boil for about sixty seconds.

Although there isn’t much liquid in the vessel at the onset but once the margarine liquefies then plentiful liquid would form as a result. Wait till the mixture turns totally bubbly and now set your timer for a minute and then take the vessel off from the heat onto a work area.

Next, we slowly ladle in the almond butter, vanilla extract and Nutella into the bubbling syrup in the pan and thoroughly blend them together. For finishing it up we gradually add and mix the entire contents of quick cooking oats.

Traditionally, the mixture must be dropped in teaspoonfuls onto a waxed paper. If you take too long then the mixture may set in the vessel itself.

Optionally, the mix can be poured into a pyrex dish and then spread out. Let it set for fifteen minutes at room temperature and then refrigerate till the mixture slightly hardens. Add the chocolate chips and butter into a pyrex dish and microwave it till the mixture melts and turns gooey. While the softened mixture is still hot, stir in the chopped assorted mixture, wheat germ, flax seed, brown sugar and mix well. Now place small ladlefuls of the mixture over a waxed paper.

Chill them in a refrigerator till they have firmed up which would take about two hours. These should ideally be stored in air-tight containers after preparation.
