Preparation Time: 30 Minutes

Cooking Time: 30 Minutes

Ingredients Required

Bacon slices – 4

Onion, sliced – ½ cup

Garlic, finely chopped or minced – 1 teaspoon

Cheese crackers, crumbed – 2 ½ cups

Unsalted butter, melted – 5 tablespoons

Monterey Jack cheese, grated – ¼ cup

Cheddar cheese, grated – ¼ cup

Broccoli florets – 1 ½ cups

Milk – ½ cup

Hot water – ½ cup

Oil for frying – 2 tablespoons

Mustard – 1 teaspoon

All-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon

Fresh thyme, finely chopped – ½ teaspoon

Method Of Preparation

1. Take a medium sized skillet and place it over medium heat. Add two tablespoons oil in the skillet and let the oil become warm. Place bacon slices in the skillet and cook the bacon until the slices turn crispy and light brown in color. Place the bacon slices on a paper towel to drain the excess oil. Let the bacon slices cool before crumbling the meat with your fingers. Captain Tsubasa Spain

2. Do not remove the bacon fat from the skillet. Lower the heat below the skillet and add onion slices to it. Sauté the onions for 7 minutes until they turn golden brown in color. Add chopped garlic and again sauté for 7 minutes. The onion will become tender and the garlic will lose its raw taste. Turn off the flame. Set aside.

3. While the onion and garlic are cooking, preheat the oven to about 190 degrees C. Prepare a baking tray by lining it with aluminum foil. Take a tart pan and lightly grease it with butter or oil. You can even use a non cooking spray to oil the tart pan. Place the pan on the baking tray.

4. In a medium sized bowl, combine cracker crumbs with butter and ½ cup of hot water. Mix until combined. Press the crumb mixture into the pan. Take care to evenly cover the bottom of the pan with the mix. Loosely place the crumbled bacon pieces over the crumb mixture.

5. Mix together both the cheeses. Sprinkle half of the cheese mixture over bacon. Spread an even layer of onion mixture and broccoli on top of the cheese layer. Sprinkle the remaining cheese.

6. Combine milk, mustard and thyme. Pour the mixture into the tart pan. Place the baking tray in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the tart becomes golden in color. Cool before serving.
