The body first uses up calories form carbohydrates ingested for its energy requirement. After the carbohydrate food sources are depleted, the body resorts to fat reserves for its energy requirement.

There are also numerous functions in the human body that are supported by dietary fats. They aid in maintaining the health of the skin and hair. They lubricate the joints in the human body. They help in absorption of vitamins and also their movement in the blood stream. They aid in nerve transmission.

Many essential fatty acids; namely omega-3, omega-6, linolenic acid etc, are required by the human body for numerous functions. Some of these functions are controlling inflammation, blood clotting, and brain development. Essential fatty acids are not synthesized in the human body. It would come as a surprise to many that fats have a very important role to play in weight loss also. Carbohydrates and proteins are the prime source of energy in the human body. Dietary fats help to slow down the burning of these carbohydrates and proteins for energy in the human body.

Thus, it is crucial to consume fats in our daily meals along with carbohydrates and proteins. They also aid in sustaining blood sugar levels. In addition, they help speed up body metabolism. Thereby, they aid immensely in weight loss.

There are basically two types of fats; saturated and unsaturated. Unsaturated fats are known as good fats and they have various health benefits. Firstly, they improve our good vs bad cholesterol levels, and fight any internal inflammation. They also boost the immune system; promote health of the brain and nervous system.

Most importantly, they promote the health of the heart. They also ain in increasing the good cholesterol levels in your body. Hence, never consider cutting out fats from your diet completely. Consumption of very little fats is also detrimental for the human body. You should eat a balanced diet and consume the right quantity of dietary fats.
