Managing Your Diet After Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is opted by many people of either gender these days  either to help curb obesity or to help in some disease. But for the weight loss surgery to be effective and for its effects to last longer you’ll need to maintain your diet and adopt new eating habits.

One most important thing that those who had had a lap band or gastric bypass surgery is that your stomach pouch is small and can hold only small volume of food. You’ll have to start with about one ounce per meal and slowly increase it to one to one and a half cup.

Diet after surgery, mainly should consist of lean protein like chicken and fish a day to increase lean body mass and maintain a healthy weight. For some people a major side effect of the surgery is their body’s averseness to greasy and oily food, since they find it more difficult to digest. In most cases eating these food results in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and sweating.

Most recovering patients cannot tolerate steak, hamburgers, hot dogs and aerated drinks even in small quantities. After the surgery the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food reduces substantially. This may leave their body deficient in iron, calcium, vitamin D and hence they may have to depend on multivitamins to make up for the lost nutrients. HERRETE | Descúbre su verdadero significado

Food to avoid after bariatic surgery

Patients who have had any type of weight loss surgery should stay away from soft foods and foods that melt and high calorie liquids. You should avoid consuming concentrated sugar, whole milk and milk shakes as it wont be tolerated by the small intestines.and may cause a dumping syndrome.

Also, your stomach may not be able to handle both solid and liquid food at the same time.Hence you need to have a gap of at least 30 minutes between solid and liquid consumption. Also, when you are drinking any type of liquid sip it, instead of gulping it down. Choose beverages like water, tea, low fat milk or soy milk.

Eliminate junk food like pizzas, french fries, burgers and high-sugar foods such as cakes, cookies, ice cream, and candy and alcohol. Eat your meals slowly and chew well before swallowing so that you dont over eat.Chewing on food well before swallowing will also help you relish the food.
