We all know the bad effects of oil. Excessive oil or fat makes us obese, increases our cholesterol level and spoils our digestive system. Most of us have a wrong notion that our food will be tastier if we use much fat in it, whether it is butter or oil. Especially when we think about our favorite chicken curry we cannot think it to be oil or fat free.

But completely oil free chicken curry is possible and that too which can be very much tasty. And this will surely make you ask a question, is fat and oil necessary for making our food tasty? Let us see for ourselves.


Chicken                :   chicken (1 kg/ 2 pounds)

Onion                    :   3 small onions

Garlic                    :   1 whole

Curd                      :   100gms/ 3.5 oz

Coriander leaf     :   1 bunch

Cinnamon            :   1 long stick

Cardamom          :    4 pods

Clove                     :   1

Turmeric               :   a pinch

Salt and sugar    :   according to taste


Wash the chicken and pat it dry. Grind onion and garlic. Mix together the curd, onion paste, garlic paste, pinch of turmeric, salt and sugar in a bowl. Marinate your chicken for at least two hours in this marinade. Lilith in 7th House

Heat a nonstick pan over oven and arrange the pieces of chicken on it. Lightly roast both sides of chicken on the pan till they turn red. Remove them and keep aside. Now pour the marinade in the pan and stir it with a spoon till it become thick. Gradually the mixture will become dry and lose the raw flavor of spices. Now put in the chicken into the gravy and add a cup of water. Cover and cook them on slow heat till the chicken becomes tender. You will find whatever fat the chicken retained has come out into the gravy giving it a beautiful texture

Grind cinnamon, cardamom and clove into fine powder and chop the coriander leaves finely. Mix them with the cooked chicken and remove the pan from the oven.  Your chicken curry is ready now. This chicken preparation is very tasty and it goes well both with bread and steamed rice.


Cut the chicken into small pieces as that helps in absorbing the juice of the curry. Adding a little bit of pepper adds slight hotness. Chopped green pepper can also add to the tang if one can stand it.
